Orcas Island Getaway...and summer surprise!

What a whirlwind of a past week! So right after I got back from LA, Zach and I went to dinner at my favorite thai restaurant. I was so exhausted, but he remembered that we had talked about doing a small trip for the two of us since we both were starting new jobs the next week, kind of as a "we're done!". It walls blazing hot in Seattle so he suggested we go to the San Juans, which is up north and a bit cooler, especially with all the haze from the wildfires in BC at the moment. I told him I was happy to go somewhere as long as I didn't have to plan it, after my other trip. He said he would take care of everything.

Little did I know what he had in store for that weekend.

We left at about 5:30AM to get up to Anacortes to catch the ferry to the islands. We were able to get there by about 9AM and went to the cutest little breakfast spot From there we walked around, enjoyed the small town vibes and the gorgeous water view. He then took us back to the main area where the ferries are to surprise me with the hotel, a super cute old-timey mansion. He had booked a really nice suite with a balcony and a huge jacuzzi! It was very bed and breakfasty. We were deck chilling for a while when I heard a knock on the door. Zach returns with a bottle of champagne (not exactly an everyday occurence) and chocolate covered strawberries.  He told me that he had told the hotel we were both starting new jobs and they did something nice for us.

We enjoyed the rest of our stay and relaxed, drank the chanpagne and enoyed the view. The next day we took the ferry back to Anacortes, which is about an hour and a half from where we live. We were driving for a while when I realized we were in the middle of NOWHERE.

"Zach," I said. "Where are we?"

"One more thing," he replied.

It was at that point I realized that we were going to Bellingham, where we had met. Not only to Bellingham, but to a secluded lookout point where we had gone on one of our first dates many years ago. We parked, and climbed down the cliff (we were not as young as we once were) to our little ledge. We sat there for a while, reminisced and looked out at the gorgeous view, and after about 10 minutes (you'll understand if you knew Zach) he said very sweet things, stood up, then got back down on one knee and PROPOSED.

WE'RE ENGAGED!!!!
